On January 28th, masterIT, as a charter member, hosted a Lipscomb & Pitts Breakfast Club event at the Memphis Botanic Garden that attracted more than 350 participants. The featured guest and speaker was Thomas Koulopoulos. As a forward thinking leader, he is one of the foremost authorities on changing technology. Mr. Koulopoulos is the founder of Delphi Group, which is a 20-year-old Boston-based thought leadership firm that provides advice on leading edge technologies. He has authored eight books including: The Innovation Zone, Smartsourcing, Corporate Instinct, Smart Companies, Smart Tools and The X-economy. During the talk, Mr. Koulopoulos stressed the need to innovate, but more importantly, the need to create value. He said, "Innovation is not invention; that's just creating stuff and we have enough stuff". He also discussed the importance of focusing on our core competencies saying, "It's not necessarily that you hit the bull's-eye, but how you split the arrow that's already there". In short, Mr. Koulopoulos conveyed some powerful concepts during this event and gave some good insight into where we need to focus our innovative attention.
