There has been so much buzz about Apple’s iCloud lately that I decided to do a little research on it. As it turns out, Apple (according to Om Malik, an author at GigaOM.com) bought the domain name iCloud.com from Xcerion. Interestingly, Xcerion's new service "CloudMe" (formerly icloud) is a computer/data cloud solution.

Being the adventurous web surfer that I am, I decided to take a look. Wow! Am I glad that I did! CloudMe is a really cool service unlike anything I have seen before.

Instead of ranting about how cool it is, (which is tempting) I will give you a few points of interest to whet your appetite.

CloudMe:

- It’s like a computer in the cloud that you can access from your web browser!

- It allows you to upload your files directly from your PC or mobile device

- The music player lets you play your uploaded music from anywhere, including your smart phone!

- Very user friendly interface

- Includes several cool applications including, games, calendar, mail, and much more

Whats the difference between CloudMe (formerly icloud) and the new Apple iCloud?

The differences:

- Apple iCloud is a cloud solution for storing your data (e.g. music, photos, apps, books, etc.) and syncing it between your devices. (Click here to see iCloud article)

- CloudMe on the other hand, is not only a data storage and management platform, but also gives you a super cool and fast, computer-like desktop, through your browser. CloudMe really takes it to the next level!

Oh, and the best part is that they give you an account with 3GB for free!

Take a look at these screen shots from both the browser version and the iPhone app
